Thoughts from an anti-jobber...

Don't you hate it when you latch on to a GREAT gig opportunity - one that doesn't come along every day - and you have to pass on it because your drummer can't make the gig?!

I know why you pass it up.  It's because you don't want to use a "jobber."

And why should you?  They give all substitute musicians a really bad name.  Nowadays, the term "jobber" IS a derogatory term.  A jobber:

  • generally  isn't as good as he claims to be in the first place;
  • wants to just "show up" at the gig, spending little or NO rehearsal time with you;
  • comes to your gig unprepared - no charts, no notes, no nothing;
  • over-plays or under-plays.  Also, he doesn't play to YOUR arrangement of the tune, but rather to HIS idea of how the tune should go, because he is such a scary genius;
  • doesn't gel with the others on stage musically;
  • comes in with an elitist attitude, that HE is doing YOU a favor and is "saving the day" by playing with you;
  • ONLY cares about the money and how much of it he can worm out of you, as he trys to take advantage of your situation.

Jobbers.  They are a wily bunch.

However, there IS an alternative.

Before passing up on that gig, why don't you consider what I can bring to you:

  • I can play all styles of music (please check out my MEDIA page for samples);
  • I've been playing in Chicagoland area clubs and studios for years.  I bring decades of experience to your organization;
  • I WANT to rehearse with your band as much as is possible!  I want the band to be as tight as you do;
  • I WILL come to the gig prepared, WITH notes and charts for myself that I draw up on my own time;
  • I will play to YOUR arrangements;
  • I play with the highest degree of musicality and work great on stage with other musicians;
  • Uppity attitudes are for jerks, divas and wannabes.  My attitude is one of appreciation.  I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to play with your organization.  You're the boss, and I'm supplying you with top-notch musicianship, tailored to your specific needs;
  • As far as compensation, I've never turned down a fair offer.  So what is fair?  Make an offer and we'll go from there.

I CARE about what you sound like, because if you SOUND terrible, I LOOK terrible!

Please check out the rest of my website

Thanks for your time and consideration.  I hope to hear from you soon!
